GLADYS JACKSON DUSON
HOUSTON - Gladys Jackson Averill Duson passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 in Victoria. She was born Aug. 8, 1925 in Houston.
Gladys attended The Kinkaid School and graduated from Rice Institute. In 1947, she married William McFaddin (Mac) Averill Jr. and moved with her husband to Victoria where he was in the oil business. She was a member and past president of Victoria Junior League, on the board of the Six Flags Humane Society, active with the Victoria Symphony, member of the Court of Six Flags, and a supporter of many other organizations. Gladys was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church. Most importantly, throughout her life, Gladys treasured her many friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; a sister; and her husband, Mac Averill.
She is survived by her husband, C. Pharr Duson; son, William McFaddin
(Mac) Averill III; daughter, Lenore (Lee) Brewer; granddaughters, Averill and Mackey Brewer; and eight stray cats.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Larry Riedel, the nurses and staff of Triumph Hospital, Dianne and Olivia McMurray for their support and compassion during Gladys' illness.
Visitation will be held from 3 until 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Colonial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of flowers the family requests friends feed a stray cat in their neighborhood or make a donation to the pet adoption agency of their choice.
